The transformation of digital images into hand and machine embroidered pieces of art, including using the embellisher.
Margaret Roberts is a retired primary school teacher who’s main subject at university was art. Her passion is deeply rooted in altering digital images to use in, and inspire, her textile art pieces. Margaret has a unique talent for discovering imagery in the colour and shade variations of hand dyed and painted cloth, and uses her prolific skills as a hand and machine embroiderer to give those images form. Since her retirement, she has gained a City and Guilds Certificate in Machine Knitting, and has taught machine knitting at a local college for many years. Margaret is a member of a textile group, Serentex, who meet and exhibit regularly. She has been published extensively in several magazines such as The World of Embroidery, Stitch and the Computer Textile Design Group magazine Design IT. In addition, she was the staff artist of Fibre and Stitch, an on-line magazine. A few years ago, Margaret began writing her blog, aptly named Digital Gran, and has seen the publication’s flollowing grow to the substantial number of visitors that it receives today. This site has been designed to compliment the weblog, but also to showcase Margaret’s stunning and inspired works, with the hope that anyone passing though this site can enjoy Margaret’s work as much as she enjoyed creating them. A very warm welcome to you, and please enjoy your visit to Digital Gran!
